How do the norms upheld by society affect our sense of belonging?

Our sense of belonging is expanded or diminished by norms that are upheld through interrelations between people and the regulatory frameworks of society. How we situate and enact norms in our everyday life with others gives us the capacity to empower other modes of living that enrich our sense of belonging.
