Laura Stoop during the workshop The Attraction of the Horrible

video
topic: Fear
In aesthetics, art that makes you shudder is considered sublime. During this workshop, Laura Stoop applied the philosophy of the sublime to contemporary art. The sublime tells us a great deal about our society because it exposes our fears and fascinations. Moreover, sublime art reveals just how slight the difference is between fear and pleasure. Terror, astonishment and respect fight for precedence in her short lecture that features not only Milton’s Paradise Lost and the Dies Irae from Mozart’s Requiem but also the horror film The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari and the vampire series True Blood.
