Read the first results from the APRIA Open Call, Redefining Oikos

news
APRIA starts publishing the results of the open call entitled ‘Redefining Oikos: Where do we feel at home?’ In October 2020, the editorial advisory board of the APRIA platform at ArtEZ University of the Arts, Arnhem, sent this open call to the ArtEZ community and beyond. The open call welcomed contributions that delve into the complex meaning of oikos, re-examining concepts of home and the tension between safe and harmful spaces in times of crisis.

APRIA will be publishing a new contribution every week starting with the editorial 'Redefining Oikos' and 'What We Do in the Shadows: A Manifesto for Tranxxeno Becomings', an article by invited guest author Adriana Knouf (xenologist, as an artist-scientist-writer-designer-engineer).

'What We Do in the Shadows', by Adriana Knouf
In her article 'What We Do in the Shadows', Adriana Knouf investigates how we can consider more expansive possibilities of transxxeno nestings for current times and future crises. In times of forced isolation through physical distancing, the state reifies heteronormative nuclear families through demands to shelter at home, which simultaneously deny the potential violence of the home and more fluid notions of relationships.
