Monali Meher
peopleMonali Meher’s art practice involves various disciplines, the most significant one being performance art. Decay, hybridization & transformation: creating a new identity, reshaping belongings, intimacy, a dialogue of matter and memory – all these constitute the language of her work.
Monali Meher graduated in Fine Arts from the Sir J. J. School of arts, Mumbai. She received a ‘Unesco -Aschberg’residency in Vienna 1998 and a residency at the Rijksakademie van beeldende kunsten 2000-‘01, Amsterdam. She performed and exhibited her work internationally – a.o. at Tate modern, Sinop Biennale Turkey, Khoj Live New Delhi, DaDao Beijing, Art Dubai, MMKA Arnhem, NRLA Glasgow, 5th Prague Biennale, MAXXI museum Rome, Venice International performance art festival, Bochum kunstmuseum Germany, and at ICASTICA ’13, Arezzo Biennial , Italy, where she received the prestigious ‘Golden Chimera Award’. In 2016 she performed for ‘Ritual Traces’ SAWCC New York, at the Biennale Arte Dolomiti, Italy and at DAK’ART 2016. Meher received the Fonds BKVB LIVE Fund 2009 in Amsterdam. In 2011 she manifested ‘The Bridge Is Open’, a public space installation under the Willem’s Bridge, Haarlemmerpoort, Amsterdam. It was funded by the Amsterdam Fund for the Arts and the Fonds BKVB and was carried out in collaboration with DIVV and DOCK Stadsdeel West. Monali Meher taught the workshop Binding/Unbinding In Between Spheres.
