Kimiya Jokar

people
Kimiya Jokar is an Iranian-Dutch artist/designer [or alumni of ArtEZ] who engages in collecting as a way to uncover and restructure stories. By archiving objects, images and digital data, she explores the layering of identity and the construction of histories. Her practice moves between the personal and the collective, where collecting is not only a form of documenting, but also a method of seeing connections and allowing new meanings to emerge.

In previous projects, she brought together online webcam images from the COVID-19 period together to create alternative narratives and collected film fragments of desert landscapes to create analyse Orientalist imagery in cinema. In a time when data is available everywhere, Kimiya uses her dual background as a lens to explore how narratives circulate shift and can be reinterpreted.
