With this series we show the breadth of research in and through the arts. The way research is handled in the arts is very diverse. We show the breadth of the topic by collecting various projects related to research in and through the arts. Feminism
The underrepresentation and misrepresentation of women artists, non-binary and genderqueer artists in the Dutch art world is undeniable. Female students dominate the art schools, but the art world continues to be mostly male dominated. In this file you will find information about art and feminism from an intersectional perspective.
Rethinking Anthropocene
Unlike abstract concepts such as the Anthropocene, life on Earth is palpable, deeply emotional and consequential. How do we experience and endure life in a climate that is drastically and detrimentally transformed on a local and global level by the fossil fuel industry, racial capitalism, and political power in the last four decades? Not just here, or there. But everywhere, and all at once.
A Sense of Belonging
Technology/data, politics, laws, regulations, time and space determine where we are and where we feel at home. A human is not a being that is restricted to one place but rather a combination of all these strands. Where do we feel at home, how do we relate to these external forces and to other people? And where do we find the relationship with the other, where do we find solidarity?
Gender
Gender (identity) is the degree to which someone feels like a man, a woman, both or neither. In this file you will find projects that question the relationships between gender and society. Check also the files feminism and identity.

A one-day event about Identity; how is our identity determined and what influence does our changing world have on our identity? Together with students, artists and researchers ArtEZ Studium Generale researched during this event in 2017 questions as: what role our origins, roots and gender play in who we are? Or what role does our relation to other people and with other people play? And what can other cultures teach us in this regard? Below you will find an overview of video recordings of all speakers.

The City
More than half of the world's population lives in cities. And the number of people continues to grow. The desire to improve urban safety is shared worldwide, but to what extent does creativity play a role in this?
Activism
Between 2011 and 2018, Studium Generale organized one-day events on various themes. In 2017 Revolte in which Studium Generale explored the desire to change the world in a fundamental way. Together with artists, students and thinkers we explored the following questions: How to change the world? What do you change and how do you do that? Do you do that by going to the barricades, wearing a mohawk and a leather jacket, like people did in the eighties? Do you do that as an individual or can a revolution only be started by a large majority?
Spirituality
Between 2011 and 2018, Studium Generale organized one-day events on various themes, in 2014 SURFEN & DUIKEN. During SURFEN & DUIKEN we made our way through our super fast-paced lives and let artists and thinkers from art, science and society guide us in our search for depth, spirituality and happiness.
Conflict
Between 2011 and 2018, Studium Generale organized one-day events on various themes. In 2016 Studium Generale organized a one-day event with the theme Chaos & Conflict. During Chaos & Conflict, we explored the meaning of conflict and war together with experts, artists and scientists. About the pros and cons of a chaotic and conflicting world. About the personal consequences for people in general and artists in particular.
Homo Ludens
Many aspects of our life are made up of play; be it football, implicit dress codes or social etiquette at work. The idea of the homo ludens (Latin for 'playing man') is a view of man in which man is first and foremost a playing being.
