The City
More than half of the world's population lives in cities. And the number of people continues to grow. The desire to improve urban safety is shared worldwide, but to what extent does creativity play a role in this?
In 2016 ArtEZ Studium Generale investigated in a one-day festival investigated the city, the (together) life therein and the role artists play. As social inequality in our cities is becoming more pronounced and economic problems arise, the air and environment are getting dirtier. The festival identified challenges and strategies for the future. It opened with philosopher Henk Oosterling explaining how public space is both local and global and giving the artist the task of shaping this glocal public space.
Between 2011 and 2018, Studium Generale organized one-day events on various themes. In 2016 You ARE HERE.
