Metamodernism

A one-day event dedicated to metamodernism, exploring how metamodernists seek fresh approaches to life. Combining modern idealism and postmodern skepticism, they invite us to go back to basics.
In 2013, ArtEZ Studium Generale brought together a diverse group of thinkers and creators to reflect on the foundations of art in a changing world. They shed new light on sustainable design, emerging technologies, constructive engagement, alternative economic models, storytelling, and the resurgence of emotion in cultural expression. New worlds and bold alternatives are taking shape!

Recordings of the lectures and workshops from this event are available below for viewing. This one-day event formed part of a broader series organized by ArtEZ Studium Generale, which took place between 2011 and 2018.

He provides concrete examples of innovative solutions that move beyond traditional 'grand plans,' highlighting new production methods that liberate art and design from large, restrictive systems. Revell also discusses the influence of science fiction imagery and fantasy, illustrating how these elements have increasingly permeated and shaped the arts.

An interactive workshop by John-Paul Flintoff: How to Change the World?

At A New Dawn on 24 May, hosted by ArtEZ Studium Generale, John-Paul Flintoff encouraged ArtEZ students to think about how they can make a real difference in the world. In his book How to Change the World, Flintoff suggests that everyone has an impact—often more than they realize. Once we become aware of that, we can start to shape our influence more intentionally. The book also explores how, after choosing a cause that matters to us, the next step is learning how to deal with the challenges that will inevitably come up—both from within ourselves and from the world around us.
