Kunstenaar Liesbeth Doornbosch analyseert in haar werk hoe we onze omgeving vormgeven en inrichten vanuit onze eigen, werkelijke wereld en onze persoonlijke ervaringen. Zij ziet het archetype van ‘de architect’ / ‘de kunstenaar’ als het geweten van een plek, een plaats, een omgeving. Door een ruimte te maken wordt een verhaal gecreëerd en omgekeerd: door een verhaal te vertellen / te verbeelden ontstaat een ruimte. Dit maakt ons vervolgens bewust van onze eigen persoonlijke omgeving en ons unieke bestaan hierin.

In this essay, Aslı Özgen, assistant professor of media and culture at UvA, reflects on the irretrievable loss of her grandmother’s memories—fragmented traces of displacement and exile as part of the Bulgarian-born, Turkish-speaking Muslim minority expelled in the 1950s. Urged by this silence, she pieces together a complex map from scattered archives, seeking the fragile memories of the Turkish diaspora in the Netherlands.

In her artistic practice Narges Mohammadi makes works that embody long lost memories, which she translates into immersive installations and sculptures. By using simple and widely accessible materials in atmospheres that have seemingly outgrown them, she allows different senses of home to come together.

Kunstenaar, kok en schrijver Lara Bongerd schrijft over haar roots. Het gevoel van ‘thuis’ waar ik naar zocht, bleek niet beperkt tot één specifieke plek, maar was te vinden in al die verspreide puzzelstukjes. Ik ontdekte dat ‘thuis’ fluïde en draagbaar is, iets dat voortdurend in transformatie is.
