Na eerder te hebben ingezoomd op het lichaam en land, richten ArtEZ Studium Generale en Mister Motley zich nu op het onderwerp tijd. Tijd is van niet te onderschatten invloed op dat lichaam en land(schap). Denk alleen al aan het aantal mensen met burn-outs, het gevoel altijd maar achter de feiten aan te lopen, en ‘druk’ als antwoord op de vraag hoe het met je gaat. Ook op landschappelijk niveau is tijd een factor: de klimaatcrisis, waarin de tijd dringt en het tij steeds moeilijker te keren is. Tijd houdt ons in haar greep en wat levert het ons daadwerkelijk op? ‘Opleveren’ zegt het al: tijd is steeds minder van ons, maar fungeert als de maat van het kapitalistische systeem dat alles efficiënt, meetbaar en dus rendabel wil maken.
Ook op landschappelijk niveau is tijd een factor: de klimaatcrisis, waarin de tijd dringt en het tij steeds moeilijker te keren is.
Kan tijd een creatief instrument zijn?
In een serie publicaties en programma’s onderzoeken ArtEZ Studium Generale en Mister Motley de effecten van tijd(sdruk) op het makerschap. Want hoe zorgen we ervoor dat niet ook het makerschap steeds meer ten prooi valt aan de wetten van de kapitalisering? Kunnen we tijd maken, tijd voor het niet-weten als productieve kracht? Op welke manieren kunnen we weerstand bieden, activistisch tijd maken, doorbreken wat we met elkaar in stand houden? Kan tijd een creatief instrument zijn?
Samen met studenten, kunstenaars, schrijvers, wetenschappers en denkers verbinden Mister Motley en ArtEZ Studium Generale het concept tijd onder meer aan arbeid en ecologie. Verwacht een programma met workshops, events en publicaties waarin we op zoek gaan naar ontmoeting en verbinding, aandacht en aanwezigheid: naar tijd als ingrediënt. Om een tegenkracht te bieden aan de kapitalistische systemen die ons leven ‘efficiënt’ zouden maken, aan zogenaamd meetbaar succes, impact en toetsing.

Having previously zoomed in on the body and land, ArtEZ Studium Generale and Mister Motley now focus on Time. Time is of not to be underestimated influence on that body and land. Just think of the number of people with burn-outs, the feeling of always being behind the times, and 'busy' as an answer to the question of how you are doing. Time is also a factor on a landscape level: the climate crisis, in which time is running out and the tide is increasingly difficult to turn. Time grips us and what does it actually deliver? 'Deliver' says it all: time is less and less ours, but acts as the measure of the capitalist system that wants to make everything efficient, measurable and therefore profitable.

In a series of publications and programs, ArtEZ Studium Generale and Mister Motley are investigating the effects of time (and the pressure of time) on making. After all, how do we ensure that making does not increasingly fall prey to the laws of capitalization? Can we make time, time for not-knowing as a productive force? In what ways can we resist, make activist time, break through what we maintain together? Can time be a creative tool?
Together with students, artists, writers, scientists and thinkers, Mister Motley and ArtEZ Studium Generale connect the concept of time, among other things, to labor and ecology. We will organize a program of workshops, events and publications in which we look for encounter and connection, attention and presence: for time as an ingredient.
