Insights in the professional activities of the alumni with regards to gender balance and equality

blog
The School of Missing Men (SOMM) and ArtEZ Studium Generale commissioned a survey amongst 135 alumni of BEAR (2014-2018). The aim of the survey was to gain insight in the professional activities of the alumni with regards to gender balance and equality. The outcome of the survey was presented by Anik Fournier (professor BEAR / BA ArtEZ Fine Art) during the conference The Roadmap to Equality in the Arts in the Netherlands 18 January 2020 in Arnhem. Take a look at the presentation in the pdf-document.

The School of Missing Men

The School of Missing Men is a student led platform that takes as its starting point the fact that 75 percent of students at BEAR are women, a norm ratio in art schools across the Netherlands and abroad. How is it then that the art-world continues to be for the most part male dominated? Their goal is to see how we can learn from our current situation, to see it both as a set of systemic problems to investigate as well as a series of opportunities to take hold of. Implementing initiatives across the BEAR curriculum, including lectures, workshops, screenings and a reading group, we aim to assemble, share and generate knowledge and tools for self-empowerment.
