Deze driedaagse wordt georganiseerd voor iedereen binnen ArtEZ met interesse in de vraag 'Wat is critical practice?' Het programma is verbonden aan Practicing Criticality (een samenwerking tussen de MA Critical Fashion Practices en het Modelectoraat) en maakt deel uit van het ArtEZ-programma Doing (Artistic) Research Days 24/25.

Practicing Criticality is een samenwerking tussen de MA Critical Fashion Practices en het Modelectoraat.
Werkend vanuit de hoofdvraag What is critical practice? zullen we verschillende methoden van een critical practice onderzoeken, zoals self-publishing, schrijven, embodiment, (auto)etnografie, maken als critical practice, enz.
Het evenement zal over drie dagen worden verspreid, waarbij de eerste dag gericht is op het verkennen van critical practice door middel van presentaties en werksessies, waarin studenten van de MA, andere afdelingen binnen ArtEZ, leden van onze gedeelde Learning Communities, en critical practitioners van buiten het instituut samenkomen. Op de tweede en derde dag zullen we gezamenlijk reflecteren op deze interacties en dit verwerken in teksten, beeldmateriaal, mappings, en andere formats. Dit materiaal zal vervolgens worden bewerkt en gepubliceerd in een kleinschalige publicatie, bij voorkeur ontworpen door een critical graphic design practitioner.
Het algemene doel van deze driedaagse is om het veld van critical practice te verkennen en hoe dit zich verhoudt tot verschillende disciplines. We hopen ook dat dit kan leiden tot een verbinding met niet alleen andere elementen en programma's binnen ArtEZ, maar ook het bereik van critical practice buiten de muren van het instituut kan vergroten.

We worden gedreven door een urgentie om het veld van critical practice in kaart te brengen: een discours dat nog enigszins in de kinderschoenen staat. Wat is critical practice? En wat betekent het om een critical practitioner te zijn? Waar bestaan deze praktijken? Practicing Criticality is a collaboration between the MA Critical Fashion Practices and the and the Fashion Professorship. During this three-day event, we will jointly work from the question ‘What is critical practice?’. We will explore different methods of critical practice, such as self-publishing, writing, embodiment, (auto)ethnography, making as critical practice, etc.

Practicing Criticality is a collaboration between the MA Critical Fashion Practices and the Modelectorate.
Working from the main question What is critical practice? we will explore several methods of critical practice, such as self-publishing, writing, embodying, (auto)ethnography, making as critical practice, etc.
The event will be spread over three days, with the first day focusing on exploring critical practice through presentations and work sharing sessions, bringing together students of the MA, other departments within ArtEZ, members of our shared Learning Communities, and critical practitioners from outside of the institute. On the second and third day, we will collectively work on reflecting on these interactions and channeling this into writings, imagery, mappings, and other formats. This material is then to be edited and published in a small-scale publication, preferably designed by a critical graphic design practitioner.
Overall, the aim of this event is to explore the field of critical practice, and how this relates to a variety of disciplines. We also hope this can lead to a connection to not only other elements and programmes within ArtEZ, but also enlarge the scope of critical practice outside of the walls of the institute.
