Open Call: APRIA is searching for new stories in time of precarity

news 06 January 2020
APRIA Platform is a curated platform that embraces diversity (various voices from multiple identities, perspectives, approaches, cultures, and experiences) as an important value. APRIA is constantly looking for contributions from students, artists and researchers who would like to share their research. The format of the contributions can vary from articles to image essays, films and podcasts. APRIA addresses the question how the arts can contribute to scenarios for the future.

APRIA platform sends a theme-based Open Call twice a year. Our first Call is looking for contributions touching upon the following:

When we talk about the ecologically precarious situation we are in, we tend to speak in terms of what it means for the human, often using old concepts of “Natureâ€. Can we tell new stories that do not solely take on the human perspective yet acknowledge and contest power structures of the political and economic desires that shape our human practices? How can we encounter and narrate stories of sentience and sensing beings that create non-verbal yet meaningful worlds? In times of uncertainty and trouble, we are looking for multiple narratives that should be equally important. To stay with the trouble, is to face responsibilities and consequences but also, to find ways of resistance through creation rather than despair. How can we speculate and create anew?

How to live in the spaces and times of precarity? How can we live among and with multiple agencies responsibly and with care? And how would we resist forms of control and universalization that lead us to the mess we are in today?

Are you working on these or related questions in your research? Do you develop work that helps us to think differently about the precarious situation in which we live today? Then this call is for you!

What are the benefits of publishing on APRIA?
Your research (academic, artistic or process-based) will be posted on the APRIA online platform in the lively and relevant context of other accepted contributions from a diverse group of students, artists and researchers. As such it offers you a unique way to draw attention to your work.

Through the APRIA newsletter and other communication efforts your contribution will be shared in a broad (international) network of researchers in the arts. APRIA also facilitates meetups between contributors where you can talk and hear about research subjects and art research in general.

If you are interested and if you are an ArtEZ student, staff member or alumnus, we would love to receive your contribution before January 13th 2020 at contactapria@artez.nl citing ‘APRIA Open Call platform’. At the end of January, you will hear whether your contribution has been selected. As part of the selection process we will provide you with specific and relevant feedback towards your work. If you have questions, you can contact us at +31 26 35 35 759 or +31 26 35 35 757 or send an email.

Guidelines for application
APRIA offers the possibility to publish your contribution in varied formats. Your research can be published as a text, but also as an image essay, film or sound contribution.
