Charl Landvreugd engages with black culture and identity in order to shift our collective self-perception. This interview will focus on his recent work concerning Surinamese writer Edgar Cairo, who was the first to develop a language for black historical awareness in a Dutch context. A conversation about memory, forgetting and Landvreugd’s performative revival of rituals of keeping memories alive where writtten histories fall short.
