Fai Aldhukair - interview

first Studium Generale junior curator

interview

Fai Aldhukair is second year student at the Master Home of Performance Practices of ArtEZ. Since January ’23 Fai combines this with being SG’s first junior curator and has set up the Temporarily Untitled Reading Group, Indulgent reading and collective knowledges.

Because Fai leads this reading group, we asked a few questions as an introduction.

Why did you want to set up this reading group?

I decided to set up this reading group out of an interest and a need to read without this violent extrapolation of supporting evidence to my research, which I experience as a common struggle among my fellow students. I wanted to create a space to reconfigure the relationship between reading and being a student, and to find an enjoyable place where things don't end up in a text I have to write for a class.

How is this related to your own research at HOPP?

My research focuses on practices that sustain a precarious body. Reading is defiantly a practice that sustains (this) body, with reading being a pleasurable act rather than one that produces legitimate knowledge. I also work on the tension of how we know what we know, and the reading group is a place to defuse or work with this tension associated with knowledge in academic spaces.

What are your plans for the future?

My plans are to be a star.

Would you also like to participate in this biweekly reading group?
