Intimate Space: Making the Bed

Locatie: Mediatheek ArtEZ Arnhem
Virginia Wolf beschreef al de noodzaak van ‘een eigen kamer’ als voorwaarde voor creativiteit en integriteit. Deze sessie kijkt naar de ruimtelijke voorwaarden voor leren en het intieme, en richt zich op de verwevenheid van plaats en gevoel. Hoe kunnen we binnen de kunst- of onderwijsinstelling letterlijk ruimte maken voor intieme manieren van lezen en leren?
Leesvoorstel:
We maken samen het bed op en lezen elkaar fragmenten voor uit Jamaica Kincaid's tekst In My Garden (boek): (1999). In haar boek beschrijft ze het kleinschalige soort belichaamd leren in intieme huiselijke rituelen zoals tuinieren of het opmaken van het bed.

Virginia Wolf already described the necessity for ‘a room of one’s own’ as a condition for (at the time) women’s creativity and integrity. This session looks at the spatial conditions for intimate reading, and focuses on the intertwinement of place and feeling. How can we make room for intimate ways of reading and learning inside the institution?
Reading proposition:
We will make the bed and read out loud fragments of Jamaica Kincaid’s text In My Garden (book): (1999) to each other, and explore the small-scale kind of embodied learning in intimate domestic rituals, such as gardening or making the bed.
