What makes us human? EN

Anastasia Mikova (documentary maker)

In the film HUMAN (2015), directed by Yann Arthus-Bertrand, 2000 women and men from 60 different countries share their stories about love, war, poverty, death, happiness, immigration, and the meaning of life.
The documentary’s concept is revolutionary: there was no script. The film tells itself; the interviews speak for themselves.
Anastasia Mikova worked on the film very closely with Yann Arthus-Bertrand. She developed the guidelines for the interviews and she herself conducted 600 of the 2000 interviews. Everybody has 1 or 2 stories that are fundamental to their life. As a journalist, you have to reveal the story. It requires you to make it personal and to identify yourself with the other person. You have to find the door and open up to them.
