Ben Highmore: ‘Daily Habits: Patterns On the Edge of Meaning’

Ben Highmore looks at the patterns of habit that constitute the everyday. He looks at habit as both an accomplishment with endless possibilities (what new habits could we develop?) as well as an obstacle (what do our habits stop us from doing?). But more crucially he argues that we need to see the day-to-day as a realm that isn’t exhausted by looking at meaning: much of what we do in our day to day life is unconscious and automatic.
