Noam Toran – Black and White and Red All Over

How can we address our contemporary sociopolitical circumstances? What forms of creative production from the early 20th century which were developed within the frameworks of political theatre and performance can serve as an inspiration? Learn about Soviet Proletkult, and the way it infected the ‘high arts’ of dance and theatre with popular forms of entertainment (such as circus, cabaret, vaudeville), in order to ‘de-bourgeoisify’ the arts.
Noam Toran’s work involves the creation of intricate narratives developed as a means of reflecting upon the interrelations of history, memory, and storytelling as embodied in cinematic, literary, and performative forms. Research-based, the works examine how fictions influence the collective consciousness, and are realised through an original way of reconfiguring narrative codes, conventions and structures, interweaving them with historical materials.

Jaromil – The hacker revolution (lecture)

Lecture on 9 November 2017 in Enschede at ArtEZ studium generale programme Revolt.

Hackers are the rebellious rockstars of our times. Manning, Assange, Snowden and the omnipresent mask of Anonymous have all become incredibly influential in drawing a part of human history that can hardly be forgotten. Hacker communities – with their disruptive, creative ethos – have played a key role in a number of technical, economic, political and social innovations in the past decades.
In his lecture, Jaromil will go across some major events, milestones for the hacker community worldwide, to demonstrate that the ethical code of hackers can be regarded as a novel and extremely important heritage. He will use practical examples in history of hackers, artists and activists who changed the world.

Interview Nadja Tolokonnikova by Chris Keulemans – 19 October 2017

An interview with students, with Chris Keulemans in the chair

Nadja Tolokonnikova is a rebel through and through. She rose to fame as a member of the punk band Pussy Riot. Their punk songs were an indictment of Poetin and the Church. In 2012 the band members were arrested for ‘subversive provocations’. Nadja ended up spending two years in a labour camp in Mordovia. This punishment failed to silence her. On the contrary, based on her diary notes from the labour camp, she wrote the book entitled ‘How to start a Revolution’, a kind of manifesto for the present day revolutionary.

Her 200th tip for the aspiring rebel is: ‘if you want change, get off your ass and do something. It’s self-service here’.

Lezing: Isis Germano – Queering the audience – 16 maart 2017
